BIFM Sparks Fire Safety Accreditation
04 July 2018

The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) is set to develop a certified accreditation and suite of training courses for fire safety managers.

The announcement follows the publication of Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, a report commissioned by the government after the Grenfell Tower fire last year.

In the report Hackitt calls for further collaboration between professional bodies, including people within the architectural design, construction, refurbishment, occupation and upkeep of buildings.

The BIFM has recognised the importance and life-saving potential of the programme and has since responded with the intention to make sure facilities managers who are responsible for life safety in buildings are competent to the highest standards. To certify their competency, this will mean being given access to high quality training through a number of training courses.

Going forward with the upcoming accreditation programme, the BIFM’s Life Safety Working Group (LSWG) will also be involved so that it is both specific and catered to the wider construction sector.
